The beauty of disabled people is often not depicted in the image that appear in de media. It's often the handicap that is portrayed, instead of the personality. It's almost al little paradoxical, because disabled people have often such a colourful and beautiful personality to offer. "What you see is what you get. The children I photographed were so honest, so pure and real. Many people could learn a lot from them. "
Paulien did not necessarily want the disability to fade into the background, but she also didn't want to make ik obvious. She succeeded to depict the different personalities in a very pure and realistic way.
